LINK EXCHANGES

4  valuable reasons to  exchange links:

1. Search engine "bots" (software programs that automatically roam the web looking at web sites) will "see" these links to your site, follow them to your site and index your pages for their search results. Indexing is not guaranteeing high rankings, but it's a start.
The major search engines have very sophisticated algorithms that are changing constantly to give them the most "relevant" search results for the keyword entries used by viewers. Inbound links from relevant sources tend to weigh higher in these algorithms when the search engines  figure out how to rank you. If you are a boat rental company, a link from a vitamin site may not count for much, an inbound link from another rental company or boating link would weigh in considerably higher - relevant links are "votes" for your site. The old days of just adding any link are fading as too many sites spoofed the search engines, relevancy is the key for rankings.

2. The price is right, generally they are free, and only pose a bit of time and trouble to have them installed on your site. If you do not have a "Links/Resources" page on your site, have one added. (See below)
NOTE: keysweb is offering reciprocal links for free, we will link your listings wherever they appear if you install a text link back to us.

3. You may get some actual traffic from these links resulting in a sale or lead. Even if you don't get a lot of traffic, usually the traffic you get is targeted, and the relevance of the link may be more important for helping your site rank than any business it may send you..
To obtain high rankings for your site, relevant inbound links are very important.

4. You provide a service to your viewers by giving them more topical information. They may or may not use it, but the search bots sure will.

What to look for in a link?

  1. Links from related or topical sites

  2. Links from trusted/authority sites - trade and professional orgs, chambers, etc

  3. Links that can be crawled - most can, ecommerce and heavily scripted or flash sites may be less so

  4. Links that can send direct traffic

  5. Links with relevant anchor text - tying in your keywords as part of the link

  6. Links to deep pages

  7. Links that are contextual

  8. Links that have aged - new sites are rarely ranked

  9. One way inbound links - usually cost you money if they are "directory" sites, be wary

Adding links/resources pages to your website:
This is a good idea if you are interested in higher site rankings, here is how to do it right...

1. Have a "resources or links" label linked in your main navigation menu; if not there, then at least at the bottom footer section of your site. Hiding the link is not wise, it may be that nobody ever looks at the links, but the search engines sure will, and this can be a real help to you.

2. When viewers click to your resources or links page, they should see links for several areas of interest rather than all links bundled into one page as most sites do. This is where you can make some serious brownie points search engines and link exchanges.
These topical pages might focus on local attractions, some subset of your business (if you are a shoe store, you might have pages linking to manufacturers or special orthopedic websites) - be sure to write a paragraph or two independent of the links on the page to give the page some weight. This  content and the page title tags specific to each topic gives more "weight" for the search engines as to reliable or relevant page content.

3. Don't be afraid to write a nice short description of what viewers can expect to see at the linked site. If you use a description that is highly relevant, make the whole description the link. This is known as a rich text link and very well rec'd by search engines. Don't be afraid to put a pic or logo in as well. By making your outbound links work well for the recipients, they may do the same for you, and you should attract more quality links. Linking, along with site content are two of the main components in optimizing your website for more traffic via higher rankings.

Here is a links page that is done so well, the links page ranks highly in the search engines!
